Psychiatric Day Treatment
Innovative day treatment services are provided to eligible Coos County youth and families in partnership with Coos County Mental Health (CCMH) and the North Bend School District (NBSD). CCMH determines the eligibility for placement, while also working closely with KAIROS to explore whether this highest level of psychiatric care for children in the county is the best fit for the youth and family. The NBSD hosts the sites for both the middle school and elementary programs, allowing for the possibility of individual mainstreaming needs to be met. The school district also is part of the day treatment team as they employ a special education teacher and an education assistant to help with the academic needs of the youth in care.
Psychiatric treatment may include: medication management by a psychiatrist; individual, family and group therapy provided by a therapist; social skills and other life skills activities facilitated by a skills coach; an array of support services (occupational therapy, speech therapy, etc.) provided by the local Education Service District in collaboration with the treatment team.
Using current evidence–based practices, a Wraparound process empowers the family to be able to advocate for their needs and that of their child in care. The entire day treatment team is trained in and dedicated to the use of Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS). CPS informs the over-arching treatment philosophy that guides everyone to be mindful of both the strengths and lagging skills as the ongoing plan for responding to the particular needs of the youth is developed. Family and youth-driven care are essential and core elements that keep the focus on the needs of the youth as primary and those of the professional supports as secondary. It is the hope of all the staff of Kairos Coastline Services that the youth and families we serve receive the best care we are able to provide in a family partnership that makes moments of change possible.
